Best of Missouri Life Market Fair

Hi folks,

Art Rocks by Annie Webster | Webster Fiber Arts

I’m excited to be heading back to the Best of Missouri Life Market Fair! I had a great time at this show last year, and I will have a lot of new work (including the art rocks pictured here) in my booth this time around.

This is the second year for this event at Powell Gardens in Kingsville, MO. Powell Gardens is one of my favorite places in the Kansas City area—there are beautiful flowers and trees and water features and architecture and, well, it is just great. And there are going to be more that 90 Missouri artists and makers there! It is sure to be a fabulous weekend.

Until next time,
Annie

The Market Fair Was Awesome!

You guys! The Best of Missouri Life Market Fair was so good! I sold a few things, I got a lot of compliments (thank you!), I talked to a bunch of cool kids, I met a lot of the Missouri artists I follow on social media, I saw a lot of amazing art, and I just generally had a good time. Yay!

I never got nervous before this show, which is great, but I was expecting to have at least one freak out. I think the terrible show I did last year helped keep my expectations very low. (I just realized I should have read that blog post from last year earlier—there were some good ideas in there. Oh, well.) I have been working on talking about my work so I feel a bit more confident when folks walk into my booth. Still, standing around talking to strangers is not where I am most comfortable. I am most comfortable sitting by myself with yarn in my hands. I decided to keep the yarn in my hands and I crocheted in my booth through most of the show. I did this at the show last year and it helped, and there were actually people there to see me doing it this time.

I went into this crochet knowing that I would probably not come out with a great finished project—it was just something to keep my hands busy. Mike called these pieces yarn doodles, which is pretty accurate. I did the multi-colored one on Saturday. You can tell that the two sides of this scarf-ish thing aren’t the same width. I wasn’t really counting my stitches, I was just stitching. I always like to see the artists working when we go to art and craft shows, and I think people responded well to it, especially the kids. I even had a couple that made stitches on the teal piece. Good stuff!

Now that the show is over, I’m back to unpacking. Mike and I are going to plant some flowers this weekend. I’m also working on getting my studio set up in the basement. We’ve misplaced some critical furniture hardware, which means I haven’t been able to put together the table, so that is no good. Hunting down those nuts and bolts is another project for the weekend.

Until next time,
Annie

Playing with Walls

I got some grid walls for my booth for the Best of Missouri Life Market Fair. I have a number of wall art pieces I want to take to the show and these walls seem like an easy and relatively inexpensive solution. I really like them!

I thought I would display the hanging pieces in the back of my booth, but I now realize I have more hanging art than I thought I did, so I think the back wall is going to have to become a side wall so I can hang things on both sides. I made the mandala pieces you see here while we were camped out at the hotel last month.

Right now, I have two guys installing blinds in the house. This is a project I thought I could handle myself, but Mike convinced me to have professionals do it. Seeing how quickly and easily they are installing them, I admit it was the right move. I haven’t heard them curse once! I’m not sure I have ever been involved with blind installation that didn’t involve some serious cussing.

Until next time,
Annie

Best of Missouri Life Market Fair at Powell Gardens - April 28 and 29

Hey there, folks! We are in our new house! Hooray! All of the buying and selling and moving stress is behind us. There’s still some unpacking to do, but we have forever to get all of that done.

The house is awesome and all I want to do is unpack and figure out where things go, but…I have a show next weekend. Eeek! When I applied for this show back in December, I had no idea what the beginning of the year had in store for us. I am so thankful that we are in a home now, and I am not trying to pull all of this together from a hotel room.

This show is going to be so cool! It is the Best of Missouri Life Market Fair and it is at Powell Gardens in Kingsville, MO. I’m pretty excited just to go to it—I’m hoping I can convince Mike to man the booth for an extended period of time so I can check out all of the art and the flowers and maybe chat with Mark Twain and Daniel Boone(!).

Here are the details:

I hope to see you there! My booth (along with many others) will be inside, so even if we have another weird April snowstorm next weekend, there will be plenty to see and do at the show.

Until next time,
Annie
