You guys! The Best of Missouri Life Market Fair was so good! I sold a few things, I got a lot of compliments (thank you!), I talked to a bunch of cool kids, I met a lot of the Missouri artists I follow on social media, I saw a lot of amazing art, and I just generally had a good time. Yay!

I never got nervous before this show, which is great, but I was expecting to have at least one freak out. I think the terrible show I did last year helped keep my expectations very low. (I just realized I should have read that blog post from last year earlier—there were some good ideas in there. Oh, well.) I have been working on talking about my work so I feel a bit more confident when folks walk into my booth. Still, standing around talking to strangers is not where I am most comfortable. I am most comfortable sitting by myself with yarn in my hands. I decided to keep the yarn in my hands and I crocheted in my booth through most of the show. I did this at the show last year and it helped, and there were actually people there to see me doing it this time.

I went into this crochet knowing that I would probably not come out with a great finished project—it was just something to keep my hands busy. Mike called these pieces yarn doodles, which is pretty accurate. I did the multi-colored one on Saturday. You can tell that the two sides of this scarf-ish thing aren’t the same width. I wasn’t really counting my stitches, I was just stitching. I always like to see the artists working when we go to art and craft shows, and I think people responded well to it, especially the kids. I even had a couple that made stitches on the teal piece. Good stuff!

Now that the show is over, I’m back to unpacking. Mike and I are going to plant some flowers this weekend. I’m also working on getting my studio set up in the basement. We’ve misplaced some critical furniture hardware, which means I haven’t been able to put together the table, so that is no good. Hunting down those nuts and bolts is another project for the weekend.

Hey there, folks! We are in our new house! Hooray! All of the buying and selling and moving stress is behind us. There’s still some unpacking to do, but we have forever to get all of that done.

The house is awesome and all I want to do is unpack and figure out where things go, but…I have a show next weekend. Eeek! When I applied for this show back in December, I had no idea what the beginning of the year had in store for us. I am so thankful that we are in a home now, and I am not trying to pull all of this together from a hotel room.

This show is going to be so cool! It is the Best of Missouri Life Market Fair and it is at Powell Gardens in Kingsville, MO. I’m pretty excited just to go to it—I’m hoping I can convince Mike to man the booth for an extended period of time so I can check out all of the art and the flowers and maybe chat with Mark Twain and Daniel Boone(!).
