I have three pieces included in a new group show at the Smalter Gallery in Kansas City, MO. “Small Art” features artwork in a variety of styles and mediums that are, well, small-ish. Several local artists are included in the show.
The Smalter Gallery is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 1PM – 7PM, and by appointment.
“Small Art” opens Friday, November 12 and runs through December 31.

All of the pieces in this exhibit are collaborative works between two MoFA members. We were randomly paired, then asked to explore an element of art: line, color, shape, form, value, space, or texture. My partner, Amber R. Clifford-Napoleone, and I chose color for our element. I focused on the presence of color, and Amber focused on the absence of color. We were each to finish about half of a 10” x 10” piece, then ship it off to the other person to complete the piece.
Here are our completed pieces, hanging in the UCM gallery space (photo by University of Central Missouri):
One of the things I loved about this project was that Amber and I both interpreted “half of a 10” x 10” piece” very literally—we both sent 5” x 10” pieces to each other for finishing.
Counterpoints runs through January 30, 2021. You can see all the pieces in the exhibit here.

I have a piece in another show of tiny art. The pieces in 5 x 5 x 5 are even smaller than the ones in the Fun Sized Art show I was in earlier this month. As you may have guessed from the name of the show, all of the pieces in this exhibit are 25 square inches or less.
My work for this show is “Flowers by the Stream,” a gelatin print with embroidered and crocheted details. This piece will be on display at River Oaks Square Art Center in Alexandria, Louisiana through February 15, 2020. The opening reception is Friday, November 15, 2019 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
