Honorable Mention at Missouri State Fair

Hi Folks,

“Field” received an Honorable Mention in the Open Fine Arts Divisions at the Missouri State Fair! Yay!

Field | Annie Webster | Webster Fiber Arts

I’m pretty excited about the recognition, because I LOVE the pieces in this series. The colors make me really happy.

Mike and I spent a day at the fair this year. It was hot and we were sweaty, gross messes by the end of the day, but it was fun. There was some great art in the Fine Arts building, and some equally great art in the Home Economics building. We saw some giant pumpkins and a ton of hams. We drank SO MUCH iced tea. And we saw Dwight Yoakam. Pretty good fair experience all around.

Until next time,

Best of Missouri Hands Juried Membership

Hi folks,

Woo-hoo! I’m officially a juried member of Best of Missouri Hands!

Earth Series by Annie Webster | Webster Fiber Arts

Best of Missouri Hands is a state wide organization dedicated to the development of Missouri artisans through education, interaction, and encouragement. Acceptance as a Juried Member indicates that “an artisan has developed his or her craft beyond mere competence of technique to a high standard of quality.”

I’ve been a BOMH member for a few years and have already gotten so much out of my membership. I’ve exhibited in shows with other members and have attended several great workshops. I’ve also made an attempt at juried status once before and didn’t get it, so this feels like a nice accomplishment.

I used photos of my Earth Series for my application. These 5” x 7” wall hangings combine crochet and embroidery. From left they are: Garden, Sea, Fire, and Field.

Again, yay!

BFFs: International Freeform Fiberart Guild Annual Challenge

The International Freeform Fiberart Guild’s Annual Challenge book is out now! My piece for the collection is called “BFFs”:

BFFs | Annie Webster | Webster Fiber Arts

The IFFFG is a collection of freeform crochet artists from around the world brought together by the power of the internet. Each year the group selects a theme and members interpret the theme however they wish. Our theme for this year was Color Wheel.

BFFs Detail 1 | Annie Webster | Webster Fiber Arts

From my entry:

Purple and red are my favorite color wheel buddies. I love the transition from regal, cool purples to fiery, warm reds. Like the best of friends, their qualities work together to create something beautiful. I wanted to explore the relationship between these two colors in this piece.

Twenty-two artists participated in this year’s challenge. You can preview and purchase the Color Wheel book at Blurb.

I have three pieces in this exhibit, including Sunburst Mandala shown above. This piece is hanging next to Cash, a metal piece by Chess Lux. I’m hanging next to Johnny Cash! All is right with the world.
