Best of Missouri Hands is a state wide organization dedicated to the development of Missouri artisans through education, interaction, and encouragement. Acceptance as a Juried Member indicates that “an artisan has developed his or her craft beyond mere competence of technique to a high standard of quality.”
I’ve been a BOMH member for a few years and have already gotten so much out of my membership. I’ve exhibited in shows with other members and have attended several great workshops. I’ve also made an attempt at juried status once before and didn’t get it, so this feels like a nice accomplishment.
I used photos of my Earth Series for my application. These 5” x 7” wall hangings combine crochet and embroidery. From left they are: Garden, Sea, Fire, and Field.
The opening reception for the Best of Missouri Hands “On the Road” Exhibit is this Friday, April 26. The reception is being held in conjunction with Lee’s Summit’s Fourth Friday Art Walk, so there will be art everywhere in downtown Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
Several of the exhibiting artists will have additional art for sale during the reception. I will be there with a lot of new pieces I’ve been working on since the beginning of the year. Yay!
Our reception is in the City Hall lobby, so weather shouldn’t be an issue. Again, yay!

I’m excited to be part of the Best of Missouri Hands On the Road Exhibit at the Lee’s Summit, Missouri City Hall. I’m in the show with 15 other Best of Missouri Hands members from the Kansas City region. We work in a wide variety of media, so there is a little bit of everything in this show!
I have three pieces in this exhibit, including Sunburst Mandala shown above. This piece is hanging next to Cash, a metal piece by Chess Lux. I’m hanging next to Johnny Cash! All is right with the world.
On the Road will be on display March 4 through May 24, 2019. Our work is in the Main Floor Lobby.

I have two pieces on display in the 2018 Hands Across Missouri Exhibit in Chillicothe, Missouri. This is a juried exhibit put together by The Best of Missouri Hands. I participated in this exhibit last year and am excited to be included again this time around.
These pieces look really different from each other, and they are, but they also represent everything I love when I make art. I enjoy bright colors and high contrast and weirdo fluffy, glitzy yarns. I also enjoy dyeing wool with things from my garden and getting the subtle golden hues that come from nature. Basically, I am all over the place, and that is ok with me. Also, I made both of these pieces while we were in the upheaval of selling the house. I’m happy to have produced things during that stressful time.
Hands Across Missouri runs through August 30, 2018. The exhibit is at the Cultural Corner Gallery in Chillicothe, MO:
